Web Designer

The Web Designer is responsible for enhancing the on-line user experience by creating engaging and relevant design solutions for the CMPA web-based learning modules, web sites and web applications. The Web Designer actively participates in the full spectrum of interactive multimedia design and development activities including creative concept, design, production, testing and technical support of online courses and programs. The incumbent designs and develops on-line course materials that are functional, intuitive, informative and consistent with standards. The incumbent works in a team environment and is called upon to collaborate with the Graphic Designer and the Education Production Team. In addition, the incumbent researches new instructional technologies and makes recommendations about integrating new technologies into on-line instructional designs. The Web Designer participates as an integral member of the Application Integration & Development team in the design and development of CMPA web sites and web applications. The incumbent designs site navigation systems, web page layouts and style templates. In addition, the incumbent produces graphics, illustrations, charts, maps, guides, animations to support the operations of CMPA web sites and web applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Three-year diploma program at College, CÉGEP or a  three year university degree with a concentration in Interactive Multimedia Design/Development
• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience including a minimum of 3 years of professional web/interactive multimedia design and development experience
• Strong creative skills and experience in Rich Internet Applications (RIA) development using Flash (with Action Script 2.0 & 3.0) and Web production technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, XML, cross-browser DOM) are essential
• Ability to demonstrate core graphic design competencies (illustration, composition, layout, typography, colour and light)
• Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Action Script 2.0 & 3.0, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Acrobat 9 Pro), Corel Draw, QuarkXpress and Microsoft Office
• Working experience with databases (Oracle, SQL Server) and utilization of remote data sources to create dynamic Flash applications (XML, Oracle database, SQL Server)
• Strong understanding of user experience and accessibility guidelines
• Strong knowledge and experience with PC and MAC platforms
• Experience in instructional web design, site functionality with portal structure, site architecture and data flow, user interfaces, on-line branding and intuitive design schemes
• Experience with CMS or LMS systems would be an asset
• Familiar with video compression techniques and proficient in optimizing rich media for the Web
• Experience with software design patterns and application architecture patterns would be an asset
• Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and practices
• Attention to detail and the ability to proof own work
• Deadline driven and demonstrated ability to perform effectively under stress and on concurrent multiple projects
• Ability to work individually and in a team environment
• Open to receiving and incorporating input and comments from various parties
• Ability to balance creative requirements with business and technical requirements
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills along with initiative and good judgement
• Ability to work additional hours during peak workload and projects
• Working knowledge of French would be a definite asset
• Experience in a medical environment would be an asset
