Web Developer

We're a small start-up that's changing the way hockey players develop stickhandling skills. We're located in Halifax and we're looking to bring on a junior web developer who will be working directly with an independent contractor to build our web properties. You will be involved in designing, developing, testing, deploying, scaling, maintaining and improving our web-based products.

Our system is being built with Ruby on Rails so we're looking for someone with some experience with the Ruby Language and the Rails framework, or a serious interest in developing those abilities. It's more important that you've had some experience developing web-based applications in an MVC framework. A Computer Science degree is not a pre-requisite. Proficiency with web standard HTML/CSS and unobtrusive jQuery is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with an independent contractor during design, development, testing and deployment of a marketing site, a registration application, a subscriber portal application and back-office administration tools.
• Take over post-launch maintenance and iterative improvements to the service, increasing user satisfaction through split testing and informal qualitative usability testing.

Requirements

• Web development experience in an MVC framework.
• Proficiency or interest in Ruby and the Ruby on Rails framework.
• Knowledge of relational and/or key-value-store database concepts and practices.
• Excellent English communication skills.
